Long Road to Dakar
On 24th April 2016, a group of 7 Artists in collaboration with the Goethe Institut Lagos, embarked on a road trip from Lagos to Dakar for the 2016 Dak’Art biennale in the Molue Mobile Museum of Contemporary Arts (MMMoCA). The idea was to provide participating artists from Nigeria and other West African countries an interactive platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and to dialogue with the public en route Dakar.
The MMMoCA, a vintage Mercedes-Benz 911 engine truck converted into a mobile museum, was conceived by the artist Emeka Udemba. The trip which lasted over 3 weeks as we encountered numerous challenges from Border/Immigration delays, to vehicle break-downs and travelling with only one driver, made the journey more difficult. The museum is solar powered so it was easy for the artists to power their laptops, mobile devices and electronic gadgets.
The journey took us through Nigeria, Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Ghana, Togo and it was a great experience. The images shown here is part of my documentation of the trip.
